When a tornado struck Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, it blew a little dog out of his home earlier last month. And when all hope seemed lost, the little darling was able to survive miraculously and found his way back to his family.
In an interview, her owner Brittany Memory says that she and Penny, her adorable Yorkshire Terrier, had been inside their home while waiting out the storm as the power went out that night it hit.
Memory shares how she somehow knew that the dangerous weather was not just a thunderstorm. She immediately knew something was wrong—but so did Penny, who sat upright on their bed when it began. This was apparently something she never does.
The fur-mom said that at first, she only thought somebody infiltrated the house. But as she leaned up and turned the flashlight on her phone, she heard a train-like sound coming from somewhere in her home. It was during that moment when the EF-3 tornado had struck. It lifted her house and blew her mirrors off the walls. She immediately rushed to save her son, but unfortunately couldn’t save little Penny.
She recalled the incident like it happened yesterday. She said that as she looked, she didn’t have time anymore. If she waited for another second, her son would have been thrown out the back door, so she didn’t have time to grab Penny anymore. To her horror, Penny got sucked out of the back amidst the tornado’s fierce winds.
Penny was bundled in the sheets on her bed that got ripped off because of the strong winds. And right in front of her eyes, she saw how the tornado flew her dog right out with her covers.
She shared that while it never occurred to her that Penny would survive the onslaught of the disaster, she also didn’t know how to break the terrible news to her son just yet. Instead, she kept reassuring him that Penny is an animal and that she will be okay because she’s got God by her side. She reminded her son that everything would be alright, and it was more important that they are safe—they could easily replace everything else.
But miracles do happen, and it looks like God really was watching over them when it happened. Hours after they were ravaged by the storm, little Penny, who was unharmed, found her way back home! Memory said that while her darling pet had a bit of glass stuck to her, they were able to take her to the vet, which made everything alright now.
We’re happy you survived, Penny!
