Tobi spent some time in a smaller shelter before he arrived at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Human Society in New Mexico. He looked healthy but his issues were more than what food and medicines could fix. He feared everything and everyone around him.
The poor dog cowered in the small corner of his kennel all day long. He tried to make himself invisible and avoided eye contact with any of the staffers. He just didn’t want to be noticed.
To help him gain confidence, the workers decided to move Tobi from the shelter yard to Roddey’s Rehab, a building devoted to animals with behavioral challenges. He became part of a playgroup, and while he chose to sit in a corner for the first few minutes, he eventually decided to interact with the rest of the dogs.
Later on, Tobi spent about a month and a half in a loving foster home, where he continued to gain new experiences. He conquered so much of his fears including walking through the doorway and having a leash on. And eventually, he met his new mom, Bonita Rogozinsky.
Tobi was skittish at first, but it didn’t take long before he opened up to his mom. He slowly trusted her, and soon enough, he realized he was safe with her. He just loved her.
Bonita loves to ride her bike so she decided to bring Tobi with her. The dog loved the trail. He enjoyed chasing after his mom. He even ran ahead of her at times.
Spending time outdoors made Tobi even closer to his mom. He learned that not everything or everyone was scary, after all. And he discovered how fun life can be now that he’s with someone who truly cares.
Thanks to all the hard work of everyone at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter, Tobi found a better shot at life. Things may have ended differently for him if he ended up somewhere else. Thankfully, the right people found him.
