It comes as no surprise that some shelter dogs have a little to low chance of getting adopted compared to their counterparts. Whether it be due to their behavior, looks, or anything more, there is a perfect home out there specifically carved out for them that perfectly matches their personality.
This is especially true for Arrow, a Belgian Malinois, who is a resident of Burlington County Animal Shelter. The pooch had spent nearly eight months waiting for his perfect family but with no luck. Due to his temperament, he was not suited to be part of a household or become either a helpful emotional support dog or a service dog. But little did everybody know that Arrow is destined to be something more, that is, a police dog.
Arrow made his way to the shelter while he was still a puppy. An energetic pup by nature, he had undergone extra training to pacify the puppy in him. During his stint in the shelter, there were few who showed interest in adopting him. Unfortunately, none pushed through as they find him unbearable to be taken care of. Given that he belonged to a breed known to be intelligent, the shelter knew he had a place somewhere else.
Arrow’s challenging behavior paved a way for him to become a police dog. With the shelter’s help, the pooch was matched with Kyle Heasley, a Southampton’s Police Department township patrolman. The duo step by step worked with each other to be the best versions of themselves. And in just a matter of time, the pooch learned the necessary skills and made improvements big time. Eventually, Arrow became a police K9 and proved that shelter dogs can be anything they put their mind to.
Southampton’s Police Department hadn’t had a police dog for a long time. Thanks to Arrow, they now have one in the team after more than half a century. From being a shelter pup to becoming a police K9, the pooch is truly impeccable. Although once overlooked for being difficult, Arrow exceeded everyone’s expectations and landed himself a spot in society. It only proves that nothing is beyond reach for someone who perseveres.
